Feather, the straightforward Monero desktop wallet

Why Feather is the simplest self custody Monero wallet for funding an Anubis order, how it routes over Tor and how to handle its seed.

You hold the keys

Feather is the wallet to reach for if you have not held Monero before. Light, quick to set up, with a Tor toggle in the settings rather than buried behind configuration.

Why it suits this

It does not require running a full node, so setup is minutes rather than a sync. It connects through Tor with a setting rather than a workaround. And the interface stays out of the way, which matters when the point of the exercise is sending one payment correctly rather than exploring a wallet.

Setup that passes a check

  1. Download from the project site rather than a mirror or a search result
  2. Create a new wallet and write the recovery seed on paper before putting anything into it
  3. Enable Tor routing in the settings
  4. Send a small test amount first if this is your first time, so a mistake costs very little

The seed

The words handed to you at creation are the wallet. The application is replaceable and the machine is replaceable, the seed is not. Paper, stored away from the device, never a photograph and never typed into a page. Anyone with the seed has the coin, and no legitimate service ever needs it.

Fees

Set the fee to be added on top of the amount rather than deducted from it. Deduction means slightly less arrives than the order asked for, and an order underfunded by a fraction is an order that stays unfunded.
